Sea Surface Full of Clouds 7:07, layered digital video loop, 2013
The piece's title references a poem by Wallace Stevens of the same name. Stevens' rigorous play with language
and structure inspire my formal exploration. The surface is at once the subject (looking at the play of light
on the water of Lake Michigan), but also a veil through to "blue heaven". And it is a meditation amidst the thundering waves
- in the words of the traditional spiritual - to 'steal away home.'
